Dunpar's Home Owner Tips
Tip 1 - After The Closing
Take pictures of your new home; from wall to ceiling, inside and out. Such photos can be invaluable in future for insurance and warranty purposes. With today's digital and cell phone cameras, it couldn't be quicker. If buying a resale, change all exterior locks. If you really like the old door hardware, it is possible to change only the keys/locks. A locksmith can assist you with this task.
Tip 2 - Before Moving In
Some home improvement projects can be invasive and are recommended to be completed before moving in. Some of the more invasive projects include updates or installations of the following:
- Carbon smoke detectors
- Sound systems
- Wireless phone systems
- Satellite or cable
- Central vacuum
- Air-conditioner
As a reminder, replace all smoke detector batteries when you first move in and change them again every time you change your clock for daylight's savings time.
Tip 3 - Insurance Discounts
Most insurance companies offer discounts for homes with security systems. They understand that a home with a security system is less likely to experience the type of emergencies that result in insurance claims. If your insurer does not offer such discount, it may not hurt to shop around, as it is standard practice for many.
